More stylish alternative for computer users

Leading industry players in the storage market have recently announced a number of new products, designed to provide customers with new options for expanding their storage solutions. Following Toshiba, Samsung and Western Digital, which have all lined up their new 640GB, 2.5-inch hard drives, LG has recently come up with a new NAS product that has been designed with a built-in DVD-RW optical drive. On that note, the South Korean consumer electronics vendor has also decided to update its product portfolio with a couple of new portable, slim hard drives, with the introduction of the new XD3 Slim family.

LG's new XD3 Slim portable HDDs have been designed to provide computer users with an ultraportable storage solution that can put at their disposal as much as 500GB of storage space. The new drives have been featured with a brushed aluminum exterior design and have been fitted with rubber-padded sides, for an increased protection. At a thickness of only 13mm, the XD3 drives are among the most portable storage solutions on the market, also boasting an impressive and attractive enclosure.

As far as tech specs go, the XD3 are pretty common, boasting the same USB and SATA II connectivity you'd find on most external storage solutions, including the company's own XD1 models, announced back in 2008. Users will be able to benefit from a maximum of 500GB of storage space, available in four different colors. There's also a more affordable 320GB model, which is approximately US$90 in Korean Won.

There's no word on when these will become available on the market, but it's nice to see that customers are faced with an extended offering of new storage solutions, most of which are announced before the debut of this year's holiday shopping season. Unfortunately, we have no details on the pricing of LG's XD3 500GB model, but more should be unveiled after the drive becomes available in stores.
