LG Electronics announced the LG National Texting Championship, a competition that will give participants the chance to test their mobile texting skills. Contestants will compete against each other in front of a live audience, on an LG enV device equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, to win the grand prize.

The LG National Texting Championship will begin in Hollywood on March 31, 2007 at the famous Paramount Studios lot. Players will compete for $10,000 and the title of West Coast LG Texting Champion and advance to the finals in New York City to battle the East Coast Champion for an additional $15,000. The competition is open to anyone for free, but they must own and use an activated LG enV or V mobile phone to compete.

"LG created the LG National Texting Championship to honor those who have mastered the art of rapid text messaging," said Jon Maron, senior director of marketing for LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. "Texting has changed the way people communicate. It is fast, direct and convenient and the enV makes texting faster and easier than ever before with its QWERTY keypad. The LG National Texting Championship gives our customers the opportunity to put their text messaging skills to the test in the ultimate battle for money and prizes."

The finals of the LG National Championship will take place in New York on April 21, 2007 at the Roseland Ballroom. After the East Coast LG Texting Champion has been crowned, winners from each coast will face off in the ultimate battle to compete for the LG National Texting Champion title, with a grand prize totaling $25,000. In addition to the LG National Championship, there will be opportunities throughout the competition for players who are eliminated to win thousands of dollars in consolation prizes, including other LG products. The LG National Championship will be hosted by Oliver "Ali" Nejad, a renowned poker player.

At both competitions, players will compete in pools and will have to type phrases on their LG handsets exactly as they appear on the overhead LG plasma screens with no typos or abbreviations. The first player in each pool who sends an error-free message to the right contact will advance to the next round.
