Day one of the Consumer Electronics Show has kicked off with a number of news about the latest technologies that will be available for consumers throughout the year. Such is the case with LG, the South Korean PC vendor that has just announced an update to its line of low-power, portable computer systems, with the debut of the new X300 ultra-thin mobile PC. Featuring an 11.6-inch form factor, this system falls right at the border of netbooks and ultra-portable notebooks, providing a mix of both worlds.

"LG has secured design leadership by delivering the most sophisticated mobile devices to delight our consumers," said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The LG X300 boasts an ultra-slim and durable exterior without any sacrifice of functionality and performance and is further evidence of our technological leadership in mobile computing devices."

The X300 is a combination between a netbook and an ultraportable laptop, being designed with an 11.6-inch display and featuring one of Intel's Atom processor, with a clock speed of 2GHz. According to the available details on the system's specifications, users will benefit from 2GB of RAM and a Solid State Drive storage solution, all within a system that weights just 970 grams and is 17.6mm thick.

Additional features that will be available with LG's new X300 ultrathin laptop include the 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth, a 3G modem and a Smart ON Linux operating system. There's also the Smart POP software that is meant to synchronize the PIM (personal information management) data from a mobile device to a PC that can be used to read and/or reply to an SMS, directly from the computer system. The laptop is scheduled to debut globally next month, featuring a battery pack that will reportedly provide up to 7 hours of runtime. Unfortunately, there's no word on pricing, at this time.
