14 DAY TRIAL // Hybrid devices are a trend unto themselves in the technology industry, so it's not so shocking to learn of a laptop cooler that also integrates capabilities that have nothing to do with heat dissipation.
LEPA is the company that just released a notebook cooler with extra abilities, and that notebook cooler is called LEPAD S17.
The LEPAD series has been around for quite some time, and the S17 is meant to add some extra charm and variety to the collection.
The product happens to possess two integrated speakers. Laptops have their own speakers, but they don't exactly have the best sound output capabilities in the world.
So the new ones will add some volume and clarity, allowing you to enjoy a late night movie or some music before going to sleep.
LEPA even did its best to provide a surround sound experience, having included an amplifier and placed the speakers on both sides of the fan.
Which brings us to the actual cooling capabilities of the notebook stand. LEPA installed a fan with a diameter of 140 mm, but also used a steel mesh for the top surface.
The steel helps spread the heat from the laptop base, and the many gaps in it allow air to flow freely through the cooler.
All in all, there should be more than enough airflow to ensure that laptops never get too hot. Granted, notebooks wouldn't sell if they had a chance to just overheat, but the base can still become hot enough to make your thighs uncomfortable.
In some cases, they can even come close enough to burning that you can't hold the laptop in your lap at all, not without some thick jeans anyway.
The LEPAD S17 should be able to deal with all of them, although the more troublesome mobile PCs will probably drive the fan to the limit and, thus, lead to more noise.
Speaking of which, the fan has an adjustable rotary speed, of 800 to 1,300 RPM (rotations per minute). Between that and the size of the cooling stand, the LEPAD S17 should be able to cool any notebook of up to 17 inches in diagonal.
All in all, the LEPA LEPAD S17, also going by the part number of LPDAU1701, has a price of €40 / $40. That includes the VAT. Sales should already be underway, but it's ultimately up to your local retailers to get a supply of them.
