Bjarne Tveskov has created a miniatured G4 iMac out of LEGOs and a 7-inch photoframe. The adorable, yet fake G4
iMac mini was inspired by Luxo Jr., the first film produced in 1986 by Pixar Animation Studios, following its establishment as an independent film studio.
“So one of my all-time favorite Macs (I've had a few) is the iMac G4,” Bjarne Tveskov proudly reveals. “Recently, I got my hands on a 7" photoframe, which happened to look somewhat like the screen from the good ol' iMac, so I wanted to try and create a mini-version using LEGO elements,” he writes on his blog.
“There is no Apple hardware inside (for now), but the screen can display videos, images and TV (there's a digital TV tuner built in),” Tveskov outlines. “I almost managed to get a motorized CD-tray in there, but most of the space in the bottom was needed for weight-elements. The screen is rather heavy, so there is a lot of stress on the swiveling arm, but it worked out quite well,” he explains.
“The Pixar inspiration comes from Luxo Jr (still well worth watching 23 years after it was made). So there you have it; Three of the greatest companies in [the] world rolled into one (with a bit of LEGO Fail Whale thrown in for good measure),” the post ends.
Tveskov encourages visitors to subscribe to his
blog feed, or to follow him on Twitter “for more links, craziness, LEGO, Apple and Pixar stuff.”
This is not the first time we stumble upon Macs made out of LEGO parts, and probably not the last – from where we stand, it seems Macheads have a thing for LEGO. For example, a few ambitious students at the San Francisco Art Institute
came up with an idea of crafting a Mac Pro case out of LEGOs. After deciding it was doable, three “Lego engineering catastrophes” had to be endured for the project to become a success. A Mac Mini linked to a PC Hackintosh via FireWire constituted the “bricked” Mac Pro's insides, while 2,588 Lego bricks made up the case.
