LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is multi-platform release in the LEGO franchise developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The title was launched on the 29th of June on PC, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PlayStation Portable.
As its title suggest, this game follows the events from the first four books in the Harry Potter series. The gameplay is similar to the previous LEGO titles, tasking the player to explore Hogwarts and collect various items. The added twist are the spell which are very important in overcoming whatever obstacles LEGO Harry Potter throws at the gamer. It is also possible to create potions that can boost performance, but, if they are done incorrectly, they will also harm the player, turning them into a frog.
The Nintendo DS version had some features removed because of the hardware limitations of the handheld. For example there is only one hub from which players can begin mission, that is the Room of Requirement. The explorable Hogwarts from the home console version has been removed and boss battles and the casting of spell have also been simplified to cope with the touch screen controls. The experience can basically be described as a standard platforming adventure that also includes puzzle elements that fully utilize the features of the Nintendo DS. Moving around can also be done using either the D-Pad or the touch screen, allowing for more flexibility.
