From Traveller's Tales

First, here are a few facts. Traveller's Tales was recently bought by Warner Bros. The company has the rights to use the intellectual property of Harry Potter in multimedia projects. Warner Bros. has created a lot of movies featuring the kid wizard and the next one is coming out in summer 2009. Traveller's Tales has already used LEGO bricks to re-make the adventures of Indiana Jones, Batman and the various heroes of Star Wars (yep, all six of them).

What this might imply is that the developer is now getting ready to create a LEGO Harry Potter game or series of games, the first of which could arrive alongside Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince sometime next summer. CVG mentions that the development cycle is pretty advanced and that it's very likely to be an action adventure with a lot of magical combat thrown in for good measure. It's not known whether it will focus on one of the books in the series or tackle various moments from the whole Harry Potter universe.

The first LEGO Star Wars and its sequel were very well received. No one thought that LEGO bricks could be used to re-create the space adventure while offering humor and very well defined gameplay. LEGO Indiana Jones seemed to lack some of the substance of the previous two games, while the recently released LEGO Batman received positive reviews.

Harry Potter, in both its book and its movie incarnations, has been a phenomenal revenue creator. Now that J. K. Rowling is no longer writing new Harry Potter material, translating the existing content into new mediums is the only way to generate additional revenue. A videogame is the logical extension, considering that movies based on the books have already been filmed and launched. Look for an official announcement from Traveller's Tales in the near future.
