Today, the LEGO Group went public with the news that it had entered a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund and that, in the months to come, it would try to green up its supply chain.

What the company means is that, now that it has joined the organization's Climate Savers Programme, it will work closely with its suppliers and help them figure out ways to improve on their ecological footprint by curbing greenhouse gas emissions.

For the time being, just 10% of the emissions the LEGO Group is blamed for come from it factories, the World Wildlife Fund says. The remaining 90% come from the company's supply chain, it adds.

By greening up its supply chain, the company expects that its overall impact on the environment will be greatly diminished.

Apart from limiting the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that its supply chain produces, the LEGO group wishes to become more energy efficient.

Specifically, it hopes that, by the end of 2026, it will have succeeded in reducing the energy consumption linked to producing one ton of LEGO elements by at least 10%.

What's more, the company hopes that, by 2050, its yearly power demands will be met by renewables alone.
