It appears that certain predictions in regards to the market of LED-backlit TVs have proven to have been slightly too optimistic, now that reports show a lack of acceleration in orders.

One in a while, market analysts take a look at one part of the IT market, or the IT industry as a whole, and try to predict how things will go.

Sometimes, the outlook is positive, with likely increases in sales and popularity, while other times things aren't expected to change much at all.

Of course, there were also instances where the forecast was more bleak, especially over the past few years of economic turmoil.

Things seemed to recover somewhat, near the start of the ongoing year (2011), but the good things expected of the LED-backlit LCD TV market won't come to be, at least not in full measure.

Previous estimates said it was likely that LED-backlit TVs would come to account for 45-50% of the entire LCD TV market by the end of the third quarter.

Unfortunately, the state of the supply chain has now made it look as though demand is weak enough to cause the forecast to be revised into 40-45% instead.

For those that want more specifics, Digitimes reports that orders of such TVs have failed to rise by any relevant amount.

This is especially strange considering that the third quarter of a year can qualify as a peak season in its own right, especially as far as Taiwan-based manufacturers are concerned.

As a consequence, LED chips used in backlight units have decreased in price by a fair amount, over 10% in fact, during the course of the April-June period (Q2, 2011).

Moving forward, the July-September quarter is set to see those same prices fall by another 5-10%, depending on whether or not orders pick up, to any extent.
