The hopes for the end of the year aren't what they used to be

Sales of TVs actually grew in the first half of the year, at least for some companies, but the second half will be quite different. Surprising, given the turnout at IFA 2013.

Then again, maybe we shouldn’t be so shocked. Given how popular mobile devices have been going, we can't honestly expect them to only cannibalize the market share of PCs.

TVs are also suffering from the shift in consumer interest from big to small.

Anyway, TV vendors have lowered their sales expectations for the second half of the year.

The stagnant demand in China is main cause. Since the middle of 2013, things haven't been going that well there.

Thus, companies like Samsung, LG, Skyworth, Haier, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and Sharp have all adjusted their forecasts.

Thus, despite the rise in 1H13, total 2013 shipments will be of 204 million, up just 0.2% on-year. Even the Christmas shopping season won't help us.
