Since the year has just started, makers of all sorts of products are setting goals, and it seems that the makers of LCD TVs in Taiwan have figured out how many sales they want to reach before 2011 is out.
With the advent of web-connected TVs, and of Internet-based TV content platforms, it is not hard to assume sales of such displays will grow.
3D without glasses has actually become a reality and new TVs are designed with such things as USB and even network ports., in addition to the regular inputs (DVI, HDMI etc.),
Already there are many new set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and other multimedia solutions ripe for being combined with any sort of compatible display.
Now, a
report states that, thanks to their higher energy efficiency and capability for thinner form factors, LED backlights should keep growing in popularity.
Regardless, LG, Sony and Chimei all wish to end up as the leading supplier of liquid crystal display TVs in Taiwan.
In other words, all three of them will have to sell 200,000 units and, of course, try to outdo the other two in the process.
LED-backlit models will, as already said, be the main focus during this endeavor,.
All in all, total LCD TV shipments in Taiwan should end up well beyond the one million mark, though this means all other suppliers besides those already mentioned will have to perform to expectations.
That said, Sampo and Tatung are aiming for 120,000 sales and 180,000, respectively, in 2011, while Sanyo and Panasonic intend to reach 60,000-70,000 and 150,000, respectively.
No doubt new advancements in power consumption optimization and image quality will determine just which of these players succeed in their plans.
Either way, the only way to find out how things turn out is to wait until the newly begun year has elapsed.
