Greenheads really can't stand plastic bags, mostly because wild animals mistake them for food, eat them and then die.

This is why those who are concerned about environmental protection will be glad to hear that Los Angeles is now getting ready to ban plastic grocery bags.

The ban will most likely go into place in the days to come, after it is passed by the council and signed by the city's mayor.

According to Ecorazzi, large grocery stores are supposed to phase out whatever plastic bags they have in stock until January 1, 2014.

Smaller stores on the other hand are expected to do so by July 1, 2014.

Several estimates have shown that people living in Los Angeles go through a whopping 2 billion single use plastic bags on a yearly basis, so their turning to greener alternatives is bound to really make a difference.
