In case you were wondering how on earth anyone can stuff 2 Cloverton CPUs in a notebook enclosure, it seems that only someone from L Computers could give you the answer. Especially since Hollywood Pro X8 laptop is rumored to feature two quad-core CPUs which translate into a whopping 8 cores laptop.

The new Hollywood Pro X8 laptop will feature two Intel Xeon 5300-series CPUs (Cloverton core) with four cores and a total of 8MB of level-two cache, up to 8GB of PC2-5300 (DDR2 667MHz) Ram, up to 160GB of storage space, Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M 512MB professional video adapters and a 17" 1920x1200 capable LCD. The company claims that "a suite of available optical drives from high-speed multi-format/dual-layer DVD burner to future HD-DVD and Blu-Ray swappable devices" will also be used in the future notebook.

What is most interesting about this story is that currently, Xeons use FB-DIMMs and motherboards that don't have a lot in common with power saving features and low heat emission. Motive for which no one knows how such systems can be adjusted to fit in a laptop case and not drain the battery in a matter of minutes. Moreover, L Computers did not show any working prototype of the laptop nor did it release any further details related to the monster laptop but instead they presented some concepts. I for one would really like to see an 8 core laptop but I somehow don't think that it will be powered by Xeons. I really don't think such a device could work without burning through the case. We'll see.
