Kyocera Wireless Corp. announced the Canadian launch of the Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router. The Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router uses a single high-speed cellular connection to create a low-cost mobile Wi-Fi "hot spot" or Ethernet hub for multiple PCs, and delivers download speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps.

"The evolution of wireless networks and technologies has enabled capabilities far beyond voice on wireless handsets," said Tom Maguire, vice president of global marketing, Kyocera Wireless Corp. "The KR1 Mobile Router is a logical complement to our highly successful Passport EV-DO PC card. The
KR1 Mobile Router enables mobile professionals and consumers to quickly set-up and share a broadband wide area connection in any remote or mobile environment with a cellular signal."

A universal accessory, the Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router is designed for use with 1xEV-DO PC cards, including the Kyocera Passport, and select USB-enabled EV-DO handsets. The KR1 Mobile Router is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses, enterprises and consumers. The Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router distributes 1xEV-DO connectivity from the PC Card or mobile phone to as many as 20 computers via 802.11b and 802.11g Wi-Fi connections and/or four 10/100 Ethernet cable ports.

Delivering average download speeds of approximately 400-700 kbps and a possible maximum speed of up to 2.4 Mbps in EV-DO coverage areas (and download speeds with bursts of up to 153 kbps on CDMA2000 1xRTT connections outside of EV-DO coverage), the KR1 Mobile Router delivers high-speed wireless connectivity for the job site, mobile sales team or family at home. The Kyocera KR1 Router also provides additional security controls such as 128-bit WEP encryption and an advanced firewall for added protection against viruses, hacking and identity theft.

Measuring 21.5cm x 13.5cm x 2.3cm and weighing 453 grams, the KR1 Mobile Router includes an easy-to-use configuration wizard and web-based device management using Internet Explorer 6, Netscape Navigator 6 and other JAVA-enabled browsers.

Available to use out-of-the-box, the Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router is available throughout Canada through Bell Canada and TELUS with prices starting from $249.99.
