Kyocera Wireless announced that it has upgraded its Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router to support CDMA2000 1x Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A. Rev. A is an enhanced network technology recently launched with several CDMA wireless service providers that offers increased uplink and downlink speeds.

The Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router takes a single CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0 or Rev. A connection and creates a mobile Wi-Fi hot spot using 802.11b&g technologies, allowing connectivity for multiple PCs. By supporting the new Rev. A networks, Kyocera's router delivers download speeds reaching over 1 Mbps and upload speeds up to 800 kbps. The KR1 Mobile Router is compatible with most PCMCIA EV-DO cards, including the Kyocera Passport KPC650, and with most USB-enabled EV-DO handsets. The KR1 Mobile Router maintains backward compatibility with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Release 0 networks. Users can download free firmware updates here.

"CDMA wireless networks are quickly evolving to Rev. A, offering the fastest wireless data speeds on the market and allowing laptops users to take advantage of new content and capabilities," said Jim Kelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Kyocera Wireless Corp. "The KR1 Mobile Router offers professionals and home users alike the ability to create and share a broadband wide area connection that compares with a DSL experience, even in remote and mobile environments. Kyocera Wireless is committed to supporting our carrier partners' evolving network technologies as they roll out to ensure an optimized experience."

The Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router can be easily installed and provides high-speed Internet and data access for multiple users. It includes an intuitive configuration wizard and Web-based device management. An advanced firewall and additional security controls such as 128-bit WEP encryption provide protection against viruses, hacking and identity theft.

The Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router is available online at Kyocer Wireless' site and from Alltel for $269.99.
