Boyd Holbrook’s planned “Terminator” reboot, believed to be called “Genesis” and scheduled for release in 2015, is yet to find its Kyle Reese, but according to a new report by Deadline, at least it’s closer now to casting it.

Last time we talked about the film, which has been getting plenty of attention online because fans are hoping it will do more justice to the franchise than the previous installment, “Salvation,” and because it will see “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, the shortlist for Reese included 5 actors.

That list is now down to 2, says the trade publication.

“I’m hearing that it’s between Jai Courtney and Boyd Holbrook to play Kyle Reese, the role originated by Michael Biehn in the James Cameron-directed original. The winner will join Arnold Schwarzenegger as the signature cyborg, Game Of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke as Sara Connor and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke as her son John Connor in the time travel saga that will be directed by Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor,” Deadline says.

Reese plays a very important part in the film, as fans of the 1984 original probably remember: he is the one sent back from the future to protect Sarah, the father of “savior of the future” John Connor.

Deadline also says that whoever lands the Reese part will have to clear his schedule for at least another few years because the contract will probably be for a 3-movie deal.
