“Twin Peaks” is coming to Showtime in the spring of next year, for its third and final season, 25 years after it was canceled by ABC. Series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost will be back, and so will actor Kyle MacLachlan, who will resume his role as Special FBI Agent Dale Cooper.

His involvement was a given from the start, but it’s now been confirmed officially, by Lynch on Twitter. That’s Cooper holding a cup of “damn good coffee” in the photo, because, as we the fans know, he loves nothing more than the good coffee served in Twin Peaks – with doughnuts, preferably.

Before the tweet went out, MacLachlan attended a Television Critics Association’s press event, confirming his return and telling Showtime President David Nevins that he was “very excited” to be a part of the universe again.

He also hinted that this was Lynch’s plan all along, to reboot the series and give it closure after 25 years. “From what I’ve seen, I think this going to live up to expectations — and then some,” Nevins responded, teasing audiences.

Madchen Amick (Shelly Johnson) is believed to have been approached, too, as have been Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer), Ray Wise (Leland Palmer) and Grace Zabriskie (Sarah Palmer). Rumor has it that Lara Flynn Boyle (Donna Hayward) has had too much plastic surgery for producers to even consider her a valid option, but she’s “desperate” for the gig.
