The name change will probably happen sometime in the spring of 2015

Kwheezy is a Linux distribution based on the Debian “Wheezy” branch, which is now the stable one. It seems that the name will change when Debian “Jessie” becomes stable.

The wordplay used by the developers for Kwheezy shows its root, in Debian and KDE, but there is a problem on the horizon. When Debian “Jessie,” which is now the development version, finally becomes stable, the name of the distro will no longer match.

A user of Kwheezy raised this issue on the official forums and the devs settled it quickly by finding a new name for the upgrade that will eventually arrive.

“That's a good question. One I don't have the answer for just yet. Ofcoarse, we could keep it Kwheezy, it is an option. That could cause confussion and it could seem a little lame. What about ‘Kebian,’ in the same fashion as Kubuntu. Not very original, but it says what it is,” said Euan Thoms.

It seems that the name Kebian stuck and it's very likely that future versions of this particular Linux distribution will be named this way. Debian “Jessie” is a long way off and it will most likely arrive sometime in the spring of 2015.

In the meantime, you can download Kwheezy 1.5 right now from Softpedia and give it a spin.
