Hackers have breached and defaced a website of the Ministry of Information of Kuwait. The attack comes in support of opposition leader Mussallam al-Barrak, who has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for a statement deemed offensive to the Emir of Kuwait.

The hackers are said to have published al-Barrak's controversial statement on the defaced site.

Shortly after the breach, representatives of the Ministry of Information have admitted that their systems have been compromised and have told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that they plan on pursuing the perpetrators.

However, later, they have told the same news agency that the website defaced by hacktivists is actually an old page. They claim that the ministry’s official site has not been hacked.

While they highlight that the defaced page is nothing more than an inactive page utilized for archives, they’ve stated they’re determined to take “legal and administrative measures” against the ones responsible for the attack.
