Many Kubuntu users have been wondering what version of KDE will be implemented in Kubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), and it seems that it will be KDE SC 4.13.

Kubuntu developers have been working towards this particular goal for a few months already, although they weren't sure if they would manage it. The KDE development schedule is a little flexible and things can happen.

“So, we'll try to land 4.13, whether or not we should do a post-tagging 4.13.0 sneaky upload before our 14.04 final probably needs to be decided closer to the action (somewhat depends on the quality of the rc). The other option is releasing with 4.13rc (with additional cherry-picked patches) and pushing 4.13.0 as SRU,” said Harald Sitter a couple of months back.

Now, new KDE 4.12.90 (also known under the name of KDE 4.13 Beta 2) packages have been uploaded to the repositories and accepted. An RC version is incoming so it seems that Kubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) will feature a very fresh release of KDE SC.

Kubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) is expected to arrive along with all the other Ubuntu flavors on April 17. The Linux distribution will be supported for a duration of three years, so getting the latest KDE packages is very important.
