Following the release of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), the Kubuntu team has just announced that its KDE based Ubuntu OS, Kubuntu, has also reached version 12.04.

Kubuntu 12.04 LTS (Long Term Support) introduces Kubuntu Active, a new flavor of Kubuntu for tablets, that uses Plasma Active and has a new UI. At the moment it's only available for the i386 architecture and only as an image to put on USB keys.

Other major changes in Kubuntu 12.04 LTS include KDE SC 4.8.2, an updated multimedia player, Amarok 2.5, Rekonq and OwnCloud updates. Moreover, the new Calligra office suite replaces KOffice.

The Muon Suite was updated to version 1.3, and the Muon Update Manager has received a facelift. Most importantly, many GTK apps are now written with support for GTK 3, so the Oxygen-GTK 3 theme will now integrate with KDE's Oxygen.
