The very talented and fashion prone hip-hop superstar Kanye West has teamed up with the equally notorious, street-wise and innovative Australian fashion label Ksubi to launch an exclusive range of eyewear for Pastelle, West's own fashion label. Ksubi for Pastelle will hit the global fashion market in October this year. The range will be designed by George Gorrow, one of the founders
of Ksubi, and is said to feature limited-edition gold frames which will come with a price tag of around $2000, a compliment to West's notorious ego.
"I love the sunnies Ksubi has produced over the years, and it's an honor to collaborate with them on this first installment of Pastelle frames. George is an incredibly talented designer, and I've never met anyone who knew more about sunglasses and other cool stuff", Kanye himself stated about his latest foray into the world of high-end fashion. Kanye first worked with Gorrow and his business partner and Ksubi co-founder Dan Single in 2006 when they created
stage eyewear for West's music videos.
Gorrow and West got together in Los Angeles on several occasions over the past year to work on the finer design aspects of the collection. "At our first design session at Kanye's place in LA we spent two days talking and going over shapes. He [West] allowed me to push the design but playing on his aesthetic. He's not afraid to try new things, and I guess that is why he is where he is", George Gorrow stated.
This collaboration is definitely not the first one for the extremely successful Australian label, which enjoys a varied range of fans, spanning from Australian underground musicians to New York City supermodels, movie stars and fashion icons in their own right, among which the Olsen twins, Kate Bosworth, Madonna, Kate Moss and many more.
