You'd think it's common sense not to leave your dog locked in the car when outdoor temperatures are nearing those recorded on the surface of a pizza that's just been pulled out of the oven.

Unfortunately, many are still having difficulties wrapping their heads around this very simple fact. This is where green-group PETA and Kristen Ritter step in.

The latter has recently agreed to star in a PETA ad intended to raise awareness about the fact that dogs left unattended in cars can die in a matter of minutes as a result of overheating, Ecorazzi reports.

Mikey, the actress' pooch, is also featured in this anti-animal cruelty ad, which reads as follows: “A dog left in a hot car can die in a matter of minutes. Never turn your back on an animal in need.”

Apparently, both PETA and Kristen Ritter hope that, thanks to this ad, dog owners will start taking better care of their pets.

They ad is also intended to convince ordinary folks who happen to see a dog that's trapped inside a hot car do their best to free it.

“If you see a dog in a hot car, and you think that he’s in danger or that he’s been there for a while, it’s good to speak up. Go into whatever businesses it’s parked outside of, and just raise awareness about it,” Kristen Ritter urges.
