Last week, Kim Kardashian officially became a free woman after a judge granted her a divorce from Kris Humphries, to whom she was married for only 72 days. A new report claims it was Kris who actually decided to back out of the fight.

Though he’d been gunning for an annulment – and about $7 million of Kim’s money – before a judge dismissed all his claims and offered Kim the divorce, sources close to him say he was the one who walked away.

In fact, Radar Online reports, he actually felt “sorry” for Kim for being pregnant and having to go through all this, so he did the nice thing for her and set her free.

“Yes, he was angry at Kim for the way their marriage ended and he truly did feel defrauded by her and the show,” a friend of Kris tells the e-zine.

“But lately, especially in recent weeks, he just feels sorry for her. She’s pregnant and obviously under a lot of stress. He didn’t want to be part of it anymore,” the spy explains.

That seems rather unlikely considering that he was the one determined to prove in court that Kim had deliberately tricked him into marrying her and then dumped him when it was convenient for her.

It also seems unlikely if you think that Kris held up divorce proceedings for a year and a half – for a marriage that lasted a little over a second.

In a statement from his publicist, he says he’s relieved he’s free to see to his life and his career.

“Kris and his family are excited to move forward and are grateful for all of the support they have received in this process,” reads the statement, as cited by the same media outlet.

“His commitment to the Brooklyn Nets and the team’s incredible fans is his number one priority and he is excited to head into the playoffs tomorrow with this situation behind him,” it adds.
