As the modern society with everything that has to offer takes over the old principles and the old way of living, Moscow saw itself these days in the glowing lights of the Disney World. Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella, along with other famous characters invaded the Kremlin Plaza for the delight of the Russian children.
The executive vice president and managing director of Walt Disney International for central, northern and Eastern Europe, Rob Jongmans, said: "The Russians are hungry for entertainment and that's why we're here". He went on saying for Reuters: "We are surprised by the popularity of the Disney brands here only 15 years after
the fall of the Iron Curtain. Look at these kids and their dresses. Even the boys are in prince costumes. I've never seen anything like it".
The ballrooms of Kremlin Palace of Congresses were full of children willing to taste a little of the interesting world of cartoons, animation and fairytale. Disney organized a nice ball where girls accompanied by their mothers wore costumes, sat at
Disney beauty stands while they had their hair sprayed with sparkles and were given Cinderella tiaras.
The children danced with the characters, were invited to taste the cakes and cookies, while their parents were offered champagne, everything for free.
Around 2.000 people have participated at the event and the costs reached 1 million dollars. This was all set for the
industry of movie and everything that comes along with that to be more attractive to the people that once were part of the Soviet Union.
Because the executives of Disney think Russia is one potential money source. The Russian market that includes
film, video, Internet products, print media, sporting events and
theme parks reached last year 12.45 billion dollars, therefore a whole lot more can be obtained out of the fast growing economy.
The executive director concluded: "The Russians are family-oriented and have a lot of spending power. We think this market is a sleeping giant".
