Swedish developer Fatshark has just announced a release date for its Krater game, a post-apocalyptic role-playing game that will come out for the PC in June and for the Mac in July.

Quite a few top down RPGs are coming in the next few months, starting with Blizzard's Diablo III, and possibly continuing with Runic Games' Torchlight II, although it still doesn't have a concrete release date.

Now, Fatshark has also thrown down the RPG gauntlet, confirming that its impressive Krater game will be launched for the PC platform on June 12, via Steam. A Mac version is also close to completion, although it will be released in July, also on Steam.

"We are very happy to announce a rock solid release date for Krater. A game with enormous depth, it really has, it takes place in a very deep crater." says Martin Wahlund, CEO and executive producer, Fatshark. "Krater brings a rich experience for anyone that likes the post apocalyptic roll-playing genre, and I'm looking forward play coop with other adventurers."

In case you're not familiar with Fatshark's project, Krater delivers a top down RPG experience set in a post-apocalyptic world where a group of players needs to explore a crater.

Gameplay centers on exploration and crafting, while featuring some serious consequences.

"Consequence brings not only the ability for the characters to level up and improve themselves, but also permanent injuries and death," the studio said. "The grim reaper never been so grim!"

Already over 20,000 people have tried out Krater and gave Fatshark valuable feedback, but those who pre-order Krater from the publisher's own website will also be allowed into a special beta stage to try out the crater-crawling RPG before its actual launch.

Expect to hear more about Fatshark's Krater as we get closer to its release.
