Kourtney Kardashian: I Sleep in the Same Bed with My Son, Mason

Kourtney Kardashian says sleeping with son Mason has strengthened the bond between them

In mid-December last year, Kourtney Kardashian gave birth to a baby boy. It was her first child and, as we also reported on several occasions before, though the pregnancy was a surprise, the star did her best to be properly prepared for motherhood. Since then, Kourtney has also started blogging for People magazine and thus sharing her thoughts and ideas on the whole experience.

Just the other week, Kourtney’s sister, the famous Kim Kardashian, managed to cause yet another Twitter controversy by complaining about a woman who breastfed and then changed the diaper of her child in a restaurant, right in front of her. Not the one to beat around the bush, Kourtney also takes the bull by the horns on what could be another thorny topic: that of whether parents should sleep in the same bed with the child and how that affects the baby’s sleep pattern.

“When Mason first came home from the hospital, he slept in a bassinet right next to my bed. I remember those early days when he was often up all night and asleep all day. Scott and I would take turns staying up with him, singing to him, rocking him, doing anything and everything to get the little angel to sleep. I was told that Mason would eventually switch around on his own – so he’d be awake during the day and sleeping at night – which he finally did. When I was pregnant, a few of my friends told me that their babies slept in bed with them. I remember thinking how crazy that was. Then I started reading up on it and decided it was something I actually wanted to try,” Kourtney writes.

It only took one night to convince her that she loved the idea. “I know that having Mason sleeping in my bed might be a controversial topic. But I have to be honest: I just love that time. I especially love how when you sleep with your baby, you breathe together on the same pattern. I’ve been able to bond with Mason so much more. Even if I’ve had a busy day, I always look forward to every night and us spending time together when we sleep. Mason still sleeps in the bed right now. We take all the pillows off the bed to make it as safe as we can. I try to have him take naps in his crib if we’re home. When we’re on the go, he naps in his car seat and he loves that,” the star explains.

Still, enjoying the extra time with her son doesn’t mean she doesn’t have doubts about how this will affect Mason’s sleep when the time comes to sleep in separate beds, Kourtney admits. For instance, she’s been told that the longer she sleeps with him, the more difficulties he’ll have to adjust to sleeping alone, yet she can’t tear herself from him.

Who or what the heck IS a Kardashian or a Kourtney Kardashia?
And why should I, or any one care?

i think, you should let your son fall asleep next to you but then carefully place him in his own crib. You and your boyfriend will then be able to sleep in the same bed as this will effect your relationship in the future.

I agree :) My little girl has slept with me from the time I brought her home from the hospital and just turned two. I love the way she will turn over while she's sleeping and put her little arm around my neck :))

Things will change once the new baby comes. I am the mother of three, all over 18 and each of them had their crib that they slept in for naps and for the night. On occasions they would come into my room during the night and ask to sleep with me which was always ok with me and I allowed them to climb on up.
I believe that children should know how to relax themselves and not take issue with sleeping alone. It is very difficult to wean them from the "family bed" and ultimately once the parent has had enough of the bed sharing with little people (and trust me, that time will come) it will be the child who suffers from being detached from that family bed. Now that's my commentary...Good night!
