Bobby Kotick, the president and Chief Executive Officer of publisher Activision Blizzard, has commented that Bungie is the last of the independent developers that is actually managed as a high level company and has clear business sense.

Talking to an audience at the Deutsche Bank 2010 Technology Conference the executive has stated, “Bungie are a very unusual company. They're probably the last remaining high quality independent developer.“

He added, “It's very hard to ... that has sort of has institutional skills and capabilities. And they're a real company.”

Kotick is probably referring less to the quality of the video games that Bungie puts out and more to how the developer actually operates in pure business terms.

Kotick has been putting out new ideas at a high pace lately, talking about how the story of Starcraft 2 could inspire his company to create full movies based on popular universes which could then be delivered to fans using digital distribution.

Activision Blizzard has announced earlier in the year that after Bungie was done with Halo: Reach it would enter into an exclusive agreement with the publisher for the next ten years, with the aim to create a new intellectual property.

At the moment neither Bungie nor Activision Blizzard have offered details on what the new property will be but Dave Stohl, an executive at the publisher, has claimed that the reveal will be “incredible”.

Bungie is best known for the way it has transformed the world of shooters with its Halo franchise, creating a game universe built around Master Chief and Spartans that has sold millions of copies and has create a huge fan following.

Halo: Reach has been a success for the company, selling more copies initially than the previous releases, and the developer is now working hard to deliver more multiplayer content for the shooter and fix any problems it currently has.
