Derived from Fedora 21 and powered by the pursuit of perfection, dedication and freedom, the final version of Korora 21 computer operating system is here, available for download in four separate editions with the Cinnamon, KDE, GNOME, and Xfce graphical desktop environments, as announced by its developer Chris Smart on the project’s website.

“It has taken a few weeks longer than we had hoped, but we're finally happy to announce that the final release of version 21 (codename "Darla") is now available for download,” he said.

If you’re a regular Softpedia reader, then you would know that Korora 21 is a great release, as we’ve never failed to report the most important moments from its development cycle. The release introduces great features and unique desktop environments that make for an amazing experience.

As usual, users of the Korora 20 release are urged to upgrade their systems to Korora 21 as soon as possible. Furthermore, if you’re using the Korora 21 Beta, there’s no need to re-install the entire OS, just make sure all packages are up-to-date.

Introducing Lens, an alternative to desktop agnostic user interfaces

One of the most important feature of this release is perhaps ‘Lens,’ an alternative to desktop agnostic user interfaces, which aims to bring desktop independent application that work and look the same on GTK+ and Qt-based desktop environments (more details on this subject can be found Korora Project official website).

As mentioned, Korora 21 comes in four editions, with the Cinnamon 2.4, GNOME 3.14, KDE Software Compilation 4.14.3, and Xfce 4.10.1 graphical desktop environments. Unfortunately, the MATE edition of Korora was dropped.

While the Cinnamon edition brings an updated Nemo file manager and improved settings, the GNOME flavor comes with better support for the Wayland display server and updated applications. Moreover, the KDE edition of Korora brings a large number of improvements, and the Xfce edition focuses on polishing. In addition, the Korora 21 operating system includes many other attractive features inherited from the upstream Fedora 21 distribution, such as Ruby 2.1, OpenCL support, as well as various interesting changes to the built-in Terminal.

64-bit and 32-bit Live images of the Korora 21 Cinnamon, Korora 21 GNOME, Korora 21 KDE, and Korora 21 Xfce editions are available for download from Softpedia right now, while the developer recommends using the torrents from the distribution’s official website.
