Professional gaming has its benefits

Video game development involves big amounts of money being invested in the successful creation of one title, but also in the undefeated players of those games, who have become the best at their respective titles, managing to beat all the other contenders.

Professional gaming has caught on quite fast, but while it is still just barely getting noticed in territories such as North America or Europe, in some countries in Asia, it has become the most popular sport. Such is the case with South Korea, which has offered, along the years, a lot of professional gamers especially in strategy titles like StarCraft or WarCraft III.

Now, a shocking piece of news has arrived from the Asian country, telling about Jae Ho “Moon” Jang, a professional WarCraft III player, who has signed a deal with WeMade FOX team for 700 million Korean won, or 470,000 US dollars. “I am honored to play for a Korea professional gaming team for Koreans,” Moon stated. “As setting good circumstance of playing, I will give everything to my fans and FOX team by winning lots of titles in 2009.”

But if you think that is a huge amount of money, he is only second highest paid professional gamer in South Korea, as his fellow countryman Yoon Yeol “NaDa” Lee inked a deal worth 750 million Won two years ago. Unfortunately, we won't see the two pro gamers battle it out, as NaDa only plays the popular Real Time Strategy game StarCraft.

All we can do now is congratulate him and wish that such deals will become more and more common around the world and professional gaming will gain more popularity every day. Until then, we can still practice and hope to sign a multi-hundred thousand dollar deal in the future.
