Everyone needs to play fair

The Metal Gear Solid franchise is one of the most popular Japanese-made series of all times. Being the brainchild of famous game designer Hideo Kojima, all of the titles found within it have pioneered the stealth games and introduced a level of storytelling never seen before.

In recent years, besides the eagerly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots title, which would finally bring to an end the saga of the series' main character, Solid Snake, Konami also launched Metal Gear Online, a PlayStation 3-exclusive multiplayer-only title, in June last year.

Taking place in the Metal Gear universe, the game delivered a pretty interesting experience, featuring a wide variety of modes, including the classic deathmatch and the team deathmatch ones, along with rescue, capture, or other stealth missions.

However, while the release became pretty popular, it was unavoidable that some people would take advantage of glitches in certain maps that would allow them to easily kill their opponents. After receiving a lot of complaints from the victims of such users, Konami finally decided to take action against them.

The Japanese company announced a few days ago that 113 users that had been drawing advantages from the glitches in the title suffered the consequences of their actions, despite not detailing what specific action it took against them.

“Konami has a firm policy regarding cheating in Metal Gear Online,” a statement delivered to all of the players of MGO read. “It will not be tolerated. In keeping with this position, we have taken action against 113 accounts participating in prohibited behavior. The role of the gaming community in keeping Metal Gear Online free of this type of activity cannot be overstated. You are the first line of defense. We encourage you to report instances of prohibited behavior and ask that you provide any evidence you may have regarding these events.”

Konami did the right thing, as people who derive benefit from glitches and ruin the whole experience of other players don't deserve to be called gamers. Hopefully, this will deter any other individuals from taking advantage of the problems found in the game.
