It can only be done by Kojima Productions

The gaming industry has a few figure heads, people who have shaped the way we play video games and how we perceive the experience that is delivered to us through their creations. One of the most appreciated but at the same time most blamed developers is Hideo Kojima, who is famous for his Metal Gear Solid series of tactical stealth titles.

Seeing as how his company, Kojima Productions, is at the center of yet another teaser campaign, surrounding a new title and a website showing a countdown clock, he talked with Develop magazine about the challenges he encountered when discussing with his peers and how there was a big and constant pressure to continue to make more titles in the MGS franchise, even though he tried to give it to one of his successors.

“Yeah, there’s absolutely pressure there,” Kojima said. “Maybe if I quit Konami that pressure might be a bit better, but since Konami handles the business side of our operations, yeah, there’s definitely a demand [to] continue a series as successful as Metal Gear. I think that what you might expect from a Metal Gear might only be possible from Kojima Productions, rather than leaving it to an outside studio to produce a satisfactory product. But, then again, if I got an offer saying a company wanted to do it, maybe!”

So it seems that he doesn't completely rule out the possibility of making another game, even though the most recent iteration, Metal Gear Solid 4, has tied up almost all the loose ends and offered a satisfactory conclusion to the saga of Solid Snake. Maybe this is what the teaser website is all about, a spiritual successor or a completely new MGS story.

Either way, we will be anxiously waiting for E3 in order to get even a small piece of information about the next project from Hideo Kojima and his company.
