Hideo Kojima, the leader of the studio working on Metal Gear Solid V, says that he might use the extra capabilities of the DualShock 4, but that a companion device will be more important for those looking forward to Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.

He says that his team is interested in taking advantage of the light bar or the motion sensor in the new controller, but the design process is not advanced enough to offer details about it.

The developer also tells the PS Blog that, “I would recommend that people who are looking forward to the next generation having a tablet next to them, taking advantage of those capabilities. I think there are things that people will enjoy there.”

It’s unclear whether Kojima actually means PlayStation Vita when he says tablet.

Sony has been heavily promoting the handheld as an important part of the PS4 ecosystem and hopes that the association between the two devices will increase sales.
