Hideo Kojima, the leader of the team working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, says that fans of the franchise should be ready for a new mix of experiences and a chance in the core nature of the game.

He is quoted by Polygon as saying that “The reason we're calling this game ‘Tactical Espionage Operations’ instead of ‘Tactical Espionage Action’ is because we're at the point where we're mixing the old MGS, Peace Walker, and this open world together.”

Older Metal Gear Solid games focused only on stealth and dropped characters in areas with clear barriers where they had to achieve an objective.

Phantom Pain will use an open world, which means that players will be free to move between missions at will and use varied approaches for each challenge.

Metal Gear Solid V will be out on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen devices in 2014.
