Hideo Kojima, the leader of the development team working on Metal Gear Solid V, says that the most interesting aspect of the next generation of consoles is the cloud-based technology, which will give players more ways to interact with games on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

The developer is not entirely satisfied with the level of the technology, according to an interview he has given to the News section of the Xbox site.

He states that, “It's still one step away from the ‘true’ cloud revolution, but it will allow players to interact with their games, and each other in new and exciting ways using multiple devices such as tablets and smart devices. Social experiences and player interaction are what will drive the next wave of games.”

He adds that, “Technology is at a crossroads, facilitating evolution perpendicular to the path we've taken thus far. It's not just about the next level of gaming hardware anymore, it's about how that hardware will allow games to interact with multiple devices and SNS platforms. Technology is fanning out in a horizontal direction as opposed to the vertical evolution of the past.”

Metal Gear Solid V, both in its Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain incarnations, will use the entirely new Fox Engine, which has been designed to make the experience more open, and the possibilities of the new hardware.

The two titles are linked and will deliver a new narrative that is built around the concepts of surveillance and personal freedom.

For the first time in the series, gamers will be able to experience open world gameplay, explore the world at their own pace and approach missions in a variety of ways.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be launched on March 18 and will be offered on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.
