Hideo Kojima, the leader of the team working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, says that his new title has the potential to please gamers on a global scale with its new ideas and gameplay options.

He tells Famitsu, quoted by Siliconera, that, “Metal Gear Solid V’s ‘V’ also stands for ‘Victory,’ which also means that we’d like to win in a global scale, once again.”

The developer believes that the rapid increase in hardware processing power for games has failed to generate quality so far and wants to change that with his new project.

Kojima believes that innovation is a selling point in North America but might drive away some Japanese fans of Metal Gear Solid.

The Phantom Pain will be launched on current and next-gen consoles and does not have a launch window at the moment.
