Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series, says that his team is not afraid of going to the limit in order to deliver the message included in the upcoming Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, regardless of the risks.

The developer says that his company has created a complex storyline that it wants all gamers to understand and resonate with.

Gamespot quotes Hideo Kojima as saying during a roundtable event that “If we don’t cross that line, if we don’t make attempts to express what we really want to express, games will only be games. If we don’t try to go beyond that, we won’t be able to achieve what movies or novels have achieved. I didn’t want to stay away from these things that could be considered sensitive. If we don’t go that far, games will never be considered as culture.”

The game creator went on to compare Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes with the hit television series Breaking Bad, which also used dire situations and sometimes unlikable characters in order to deliver a message to viewers.

Kojima adds, “In games we have to go to the limit; we want to stay within this limit of how far – pushing the boundaries of conveying our message. We look around and we don’t see too many games like this; that is unfortunate.”

Konami is confident that the message of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid games is delivered in such a way that it will not be censored on any market.

The chain of revenge and how it affects characters is one of the main themes of the game, and the player himself will have to see how the events of the titles affect him.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will be launched on March 18 in North America and two days later in Europe and can be played on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft, and current-gen consoles.

The title is designed to act as a prologue to the events that gamers will experience in The Phantom Pain and it will also show the power of the new Fox Engine and how it can be used to create a complex open world.

Kojima has also stressed that, despite a limited number of missions, Ground Zeroes has a high degree of replayability, a feature that will appeal most to veterans of the series.

The Phantom Pain should be launched late during this year.
