So then, Reuters' report yesterday was all bogus...?

Just yesterday I picked up on an article saying that Konami's Kazumi Kitaue wasn't impressed much by Sony's move of cutting the price on the PS3, going multiplatform with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. However, today, we have confirmation (via Evil Avatar) that Konami's head, Hideo Kojima, used the terms, "MGS 4," "PS3," and "exclusive" in the same sentence, at the E3 when he also presented the game's new trailer (below). So then, is MGS 4 going multiplatform or not?

Here's what the Reuters report said, as I found yesterday via Slashdot: "Kitaue said Konami may need to expand the target hardware for its blockbuster fighting game Metal Gear Solid, which has so far been developed for Sony's PlayStation machines, to other consoles in the future to recoup development costs ... The release of the latest version of Metal Gear Solid series is expected to help lure hard-core gamers to the PS3 and alleviate concerns over scarcity of strong PS3 titles. Underscoring sluggish PS3 sales and robust demand for the Wii, Nintendo shot past Sony in market value last month and bumped the Tokyo-based electronics conglomerate off the list of Japan's 10 most valuable companies."

This announcement didn't even come as a surprise. Developers and publishers have been running from the PS3 for quite some time now, some simply aborting PS3 versions of their franchises, while others preferred a multiplatform solution.

The reality is it really doesn't matter to us PlayStation fans, as long as the game stays faithful to its launch system. But what about Xbox 360 gamers whose dreams of playing the game on their systems have been fulfilled and crushed in less than 24 hours? I guess Kojima's announcement is what everyone has to take into account. Now, do watch this sublime E3 trailer of the latest installment in the MGS series, keeping in mind that the game hits Sony's PS3 in early 2008.
