This latest upgrade is only about fixes and nothing else

Kodi, a media player and entertainment hub formerly known as XBMC, has just received its first major upgrade and the developers have fixed quite a few issues.

The first edition of Kodi was released back on December 23, 2014, so the devs had more than a month to sort things out and to make all the necessary adjustments to the iteration. There are no new features being added to the media hub and this is a maintenance release, but it still makes for an interesting upgrade.

It will take a while until it sinks in that XBMC has changed its name to Kodi and that it's basically the same software, only with a new name and slightly better after the latest upgrade. The XBMC name has been built over many years and it's the best one you can find on the Linux platform.

Kodi 14.1 is a maintenance release

The Kodi 14.x branch was a major one, so a maintenance release was to be expected. It arrived sooner than expected and it has quite a few interesting fixes, so the users who have this branch installed should upgrade first chance they get.

"We are proud to announce the release of Kodi 14.1, which comes with a new name, a new logo, and a wide variety of new features, but underneath the new coat of paint remains the same software we all love. This is the first small bugfix release in the Helix range," reads the official website.

The devs have explained that a segfault that occurred when silencing audio has been corrected, the DXVA flickering on AMD hardware has been fixed, a number of PVR add-ons have been updated, and some small problems with library navigation have been corrected.

You can download Kodi 14.0 from Softpedia and give it a go.
