Kodak, the company that made a name for itself thanks to its popular Polaroid instant cameras, now opens up another path in its history.

Those who don't remember may want to know that Kodak announced its first ever smartphone back in January, at CES 2015.

The IM5 was supposed to hit shelves sometime in March or April, but this timeframe has come and gone and the Kodak smartphone did not make it to the market.

Well, it looks like Kodak has finally launched its IM5 smartphone, even though it's only available in one European country. Beginning today, customers in the Netherlands can purchase the Kodak IM5 for €280 ($315) outright.

The IM5 can also be had for much less assuming customers commit to long-term contracts with any of the three major carriers in the country, GSMArena notes.

Unfortunately, the specs of the Kodak IM5 do not recommend such a high price, though the name of the brand might appeal to those who are looking for a device that would set them apart from other Android smartphone users.

For that amount, you get a KitKat-powered phone with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage

First of all, the IM5 ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box, but Kodak promises that the smartphone will eventually receive an Android Lollipop upgrade at some point.

Hardware-wise, the IM5 is equipped with a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory. That's a bit on the low side, even if users can further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

It's also worth mentioning that Kodak IM5 sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. The smartphone is powered by a 2,100 mAh battery and packs a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording.

The main camera also comes with some easy sharing and printing features that enable users to print their photos directly from the phone quickly and easily.
