Kodak occupies a very important place in the history of photography, although it was caught a bit unprepared by the rapid advent of digital cameras. Nevertheless, the company is doing everything in its power to regain the lost ground, so it also got actively involved on the digital photo frame market. Actually, it's latest announcement is related exactly to this segment, since Kodak has just unveiled what seems to be the world's first digital photo frame to employ OLED technology.

The wireless photo frame sports a 7.6-inch screen, which displays photos at resolutions of up to 800x480 pixels, at a 16:9 aspect ratio and a contrast ratio that can reach a very impressive value, of 30,000:1. The viewing angles are also quite OK, namely 180 degrees on both vertical and horizontal directions.

The quality of the displayed images is further enhanced by the Kodak Perfect Touch technology, which automatically processes images to improve exposure, brightness and color, and KODAK Image Science, which optimizes image quality for display on OLED panels.

Another interesting feature worth mentioning about the device from Kodak is the fact that it requires no backlighting and incorporates an ambient light sensor that optimizes the viewing experience by adjusting display brightness based on the surrounding light. Moreover, just like most of the other modern digital frames out there, this particular model also comes packed with built-in speakers, which means that it can double as a portable media player too.

The device from Kodak incorporates a Wi-Fi networking module, a very popular trend among the manufacturers of such products nowadays. It also packs a built-in memory card reader and a USB port, but, more importantly, no less than 2 GB of internal flash memory, which can be used to store up to 10,000 images.

Unfortunately, the Kodak OLED wireless frame will be quite expensive, since it will sell for around 1,000 US dollars when it arrives in stores, at some point during the 2008 holiday season.
