Kobo Arc has been around for quite some time and did a good job offering a good mix of tablet and e-reader capabilities.

Even though the slate was launched with Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, it was pretty popular among Android enthusiasts in North America.

This is probably one of the main reasons the manufacturer decided to bring a new version of Google’s mobile platform to Kobo Arc users.

Today, Kobo announced an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade is now available for download for its 7-inch Google-certified Kobo Arc tablet. Obviously, all three models (16GB, 32GB and 64GB) are eligible for the upgrade.

According to Kobo, this update is available for download OTA (over the air) and is expected to improve and optimizes the user experience with faster performance, better search capabilities and enhanced touch responsiveness.

Aside from bringing the tablet’s software to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the update adds lots of new features and improvements, including Google Now, Expanded notifications, Face unlock, Improved search, Optimized voice recognition and enhanced predictive typing.

With Google Now, users will be able to organize their schedules much easier, as the application customizes information based on a user’s location, time of day, history and calendar events.

Those who own Kobo’s 7-inch tablet will now be able to experience a much richer notification experience thanks to the new expanded notifications system.

All alerts will be received directly within the notifications area, so users can now expand and collapse notifications to display more or less detail.

“Kobo Arc is the perfect tablet for people who love consuming books, movies, and surfing the web. With the latest Jelly Bean update, Kobo Arc becomes the perfect eReading companion that offers more with intelligent search recommendations, voice-to-text, and a highly responsive touch screen,” said Wayne White, EVP of Devices, Kobo.
