Tablet manufacturer Mercury has recently performed an upgrade of its mTAB Star slate. The company boasts that the tablet’s performance has been improved with up to 40%, so customers will be able to do more with the device.

The new configuration replaces the previous single-core platform, adding MediaTek’s latest MTK8377 chipset, reports TechTree. Mercury has slipped in a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and a PowerVR Series 5 SGX GPU. But don’t get excited too fast, you should also take into consideration that the device runs the outdated Android 4.0 version (Ice Cream Sandwich.)

If you’re willing to skip the OS deficiency, you’ll also find a 3G/HSPA/Edge modem onboad along with 8GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and FM. The new mTAB Star features a 7-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Pricing availability will be announced in the third week of December.
