Last week, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless made available on its airwaves a new Android-based smartphone, the Samsung Fascinate, a Galaxy S device, which features a price tag of $199.99 on the carrier's airwaves.Being a Galaxy S device means that
the Fascinate is expected to deliver great performance levels to its users, though it seems that not all things are as good as one might think.
According to a recent article on BGR, the new Samsung Fascinate landed at Verizon with a great deal of known issues included into the equation, as an internal “known issues” list for this
high-end mobile phone shows.
One can have a look at the entire list over at BGR
here. Some entries on it include:
- Alert Notifications: There is no option to change the Calendar alert notification. Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue.
- Blank Screen: If you are on a call and a second call comes in, you get the correct Caller ID information. If you answer the second call, the caller ID screen goes blank and does not show any caller information. Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue
- Email Sync: In some cases exchange e-mail and yahoo mail can stop syncing
Short term work around: The user can manually sync
Planned Resolution: A fix for this issue will be included in the MR 1 release for this device.
- Exchange ActiveSync Security Lock: The EAS security lock may be invoked earlier then the timer is set for.
- Google and Bing Maps Latency: It has been reported that it takes longer then other devices to get GPS location information when using Google and Bing maps. Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue
- Call Disconnect:
If you are on a call or in the process of receiving an incoming call and you press the search button the call may be disconnected. For what it's worth, issues are something that the majority of
handsets come to the market with, though most of them are rather harmless.
The same happens with the Fascinate too, it seems, as most of the issues it landed on shelves with are insignificant, while others should not cause too much of a trouble.
Since
the Fascinate arrived on the market with Android 2.1 on board and Samsung and Verizon promised an update to Android 2.2, many of these issues, if not all of them, should be solved as soon as the software update becomes available.
However, there's no telling on when that might happen, as the device was put on sale only a few days ago, and Verizon still has to update an older handset, the DROID X.
