The cosmetics industry is one extremely profitable – mostly thanks to women’s never-ending quest for the perfect, wrinkle-free, always-youthful complexion. As more products of this type are entering the market, so are fakes.

Before heading out to the store to pick a face cream of which you heard does wonders in terms of smoothing out the appearance of wrinkles, you should know (if you don’t already) that there are countless creams that do nothing in this sense, no matter how much they cost.

The Daily Mail has the solution to this: when you do decide you want to spend a small fortune on a good face cream (or the contrary, pay as little as a few bucks), check out the ingredients list on the label.

This is the only way you can make sure your money is well spent and, at the same time, avoid being disappointed when, after a few weeks, you look in the mirror and there’s still no visible result.

The best way to make sure you do have a strong ally against the signs of old age, look for the following ingredients: retinol, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, idebenone, niacinamide, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, peptides and UV filters.

“We are obsessed with looking younger. We spend £600 million a year on anti-ageing face creams and this figure is set to rise as yet more products enter the market,” the Mail notes.

“But with a vast array of lotions and potions competing for our cash, how can you be sure the cream you are buying is not just a gimmick? The answer is to look out for the proven ingredients that can really halt skin ageing,” the British publication further says.

For more on what each ingredient does, as well as a few suggestions on which are the best face creams to prevent and smooth out wrinkles, please see the Daily Mail piece here.
