Knights in the Nightmare is a unique presence on Nintendo's DS. The game could be seen as a Strategy RPG, but it's also a lot more than this. The title is entirely controlled with the stylus, and mixes together an active-timer turn-based combat system, similar to the one in Final Fantasy VI, with elements of a top-down shooter, also encouraging players to resort to rather unorthodox solutions in order to reach their goals.

In the battle mode, gamers control a Wisp that can bring back to life the corpses of fallen knights, temporarily returning them to their physical form. These warriors can become permanent additions to their army as long as they can locate a medium to their former life, an object that has meaning to them.

Knights in the Nightmare has a strong character-customization feature, with a lot of classes present in the game, multiple jobs for each unit class and a soul-transport system that allows one to transfer all the attributes of one player to another. Gathering an army and building its strength, players must overthrow the demons that have conquered the land and led to the death of the very knights they now control. The game was published and developed by Sting, Inc. and it was released on September 25, 2008.
