A kitten nearly lost its life after being horrifically abused by a man who drugged it with heroin, smashed its face into the ground, and even attempted to choke it with a rope. Luckily, it was saved by police officers and a quick-thinking vet.

Media reports say that the incident occurred in Pennsylvania, US, this past Tuesday. The man who nearly killed the young feline, identified as 24-year-old James Myers, is now in police custody and is facing animal cruelty charges.

By the looks of it, police officers were going about their business patrolling the town of West Chester in Pennsylvania when they chanced to stumble upon James Myers just as the man was abusing the kitten inside his car, CBS Local informs.

Information shared with the public says that, when found by police officers, the cat had a rope wrapped around its neck. What's more, it was bleeding profusely, especially from around its face, and was clearly under the influence.

Having been found, the kitten was rushed to a local veterinary clinic. At the time folks here first laid eyes on it, the young cat was in such poor shape that it was suggested that it should probably be euthanized and put out of its misery.

Luckily, one of the vets at this clinic decided to at least try and give the kitten a fighting chance, and treated it with a drug that is usually used to save people who have been ill-inspired enough to overdose on heroin. The animal soon recovered.

According to Philly, the 8-week-old kitten, now named Hope, started purring about 24 hours after having been rescued by police officers from the hands of its abusers. The kitten is expected to eventually make a full recovery and be adopted by a loving family.

As far as James Myers is concerned, chances are that he will be spending some time behind bars. This is because, at the time officers inspected his car, the vehicle was littered with dozens of hypodermic needles and hundreds of used bags of heroin. Several bundles of heroin were also discovered.

Commenting on the horrific abuses that the kitten endured at the hands of this 24-year-old from Philadelphia, US, District Attorney Tom Hogan stated, “The abuse of this kitten was a singularly depraved act.”

“Heroin addicts abuse themselves, animals, and children without remorse or regret. What punishment is severe enough for this type of evil?” District Attorney Tom Hogan went on to say. “That was a lot to go through for the poor, little guy,” added Amy Shields with Hope Veterinary Specialists.
