Yoshinori Kitase, a producer working on the Final Fantasy series, says that the company currently has no plans to deliver a High Definition remake for the twelfth title in the series, although that could change in the near future.

He tells Eurogamer that, “I haven't heard there is a plan. It depends on the team who created 12. If they think it's a good idea they might opt for it.”

The developer also explains that Square Enix is trying to make sure that all titles in the long-running Japanese role-playing game franchise are available in some form for modern gamers.

He says that the company has managed to make the PlayStation Network a repository for the titles launched on the first PlayStation, but it has more trouble getting PS3 games to fans.

Kitase adds, “So it's not quite so straightforward if you want to play PS2 titles. That's why we wanted to remaster some of our PS2 titles. We wanted to make them more accessible and available to as many gamers as possible.”

Final Fantasy X and X-2 are both being remade at the moment and the team promises that all the core gameplay mechanics are recognizable and that fans will be able to enjoy completely revamped versions of the character they know and love.

Square Enix is currently continuing to deliver new content for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the MMO that has managed to erase the failure of the previous installment in the series.

The company is also working on Final Fantasy XV, the title that will move the franchise to the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

The game will use a new cast of characters, an innovative combat system that will appeal to long-term fans and upgraded graphics.
