Earlier this week, we brought you news that winners of the KitKat campaign in India, were awarded first-gen Nexus 7 tablets, rather than the 2013 model, the rest of the world was receiving.

Naturally, the issue caused quite a controversy, with unhappy Android fans teaming up on Facebook to share their experience and put together a petition for KitKat India, asking for the same prize that every other KitKat winner across the globe got.

After being made aware of the growing number of dissatisfied fans, KitKat India stepped forward and tried providing an excuse, saying that the Nexus 7 hadn't been launched in India at the time the contest took place.

This might have turned out to be a decent excuse after all, except there’s a caveat. The Nexus 7 2012 wasn't shipped to customers before the new version came out, but after. All the fuss created about the seemingly misleading campaign, caused KitKat India to reconsider its position and to finally post the following message on Facebook.

“We are delighted to announce that winners of Android Kit Kat promotion will receive the new 2013 Nexus 7 tablet. If you have received an earlier version of the device, we will contact you separately to get it replaced. “

“The delivery schedule for the new dispatches as well as the procedure to be followed for replacement will be communicated shortly.”

It’s true the KitKat promo text never specified which Nexus 7 was going to be awarded in the campaign (it said “This Nexus 7 tablet can be yours"), but the device showcased in the promo picture was obviously a second-gen Nexus 7 slate.

At the end of the day, KitKat India did the right thing, especially since all other KitKat campaign winners across the globe were being shipped a Nexus 7 2013 slates. Hopefully, this news will bring back your holiday spirit, Indian Nexus fans!
