Jon Snow has the makings of a great hero, actor wants him to succeed

Kit Harington’s first foray into feature films as a leading man, “Pompeii,” was far from the hit he expected it to be but, at the very least, he still has his Jon Snow on “Game of Thrones” to fall back on. Speaking of Snow, he tells GQ, April 2014, that he has the makings of a great hero.

On April 6, “Game of Thrones” returns to HBO for its fourth season and, as we’ve seen from the countless teasers and trailers, there’s something huge in store for Snow, the Stark bastard who spent the entire third season up in the North on a secret mission.

Snow, Kit reckons, could be the series’ biggest hero. He for one is definitely rooting for him but whatever the cards hold for this character is not known yet. George R.R. Martin is still writing the novels on which the TV series is based, so Jon could end up like the majority of the Starks, if you know what we mean.

Harington hopes Snow beats the odds, though.

“I think Jon Snow is one of the last bastions of a young hero who might do a good thing. There’s a huge amount riding on him to be a leader, and I want him to become that leader. I guess for me, Jon Snow is a figure of hope within the whole thing – that he’ll continue to be this good person, and somehow the story will end well for everybody,” he tells the publication.

Kit admits that he finds playing the character very limiting because he’s literally bound by contract not to change anything about his physical appearance. This includes cutting his hair short or shaving the beard, though we’d be willing to bet big money that many of his female fans love him like this, rugged as he is.

The photo above is from the GQ spread: he might be flexing his muscles, wear a “Heartbreaker” T-shirt and smolder for the camera, but those puppy eyes still make him adorable – even though he was probably going for the “dangerous” look.

Speaking of danger, Kit says that fans should expect more tension, more action and loads more violence in the fourth season of the series. So, yes, what we’ve seen with the Red Wedding is nothing compared to what the producers have prepared for us with the upcoming episodes.

“It’s getting worse. There’s some scenes this season, and there’s parts of it that go even darker. What I wonder is how people can deal with something going dark and dark and darker. Being unrelenting in how pessimistic things are. They really push it,” Harington says.

As for the appeal of “Game of Thrones,” the actor doesn’t beat about the bush, “I think people like Game of Thrones because people respond to not being treated like idiots. It’s a really complex story, and it’s very hard to follow, and people love working that puzzle out.”
